I have signed up for an inspiring online class called Ali Edwards’ One Little Word 2012 class and picked my word. It’s a word to focus on for the whole year – I’m a little ADD so finding one word to focus on for a whole year was challenging!
I really like Andy Warhol’s quote “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art”. I did some reading, journaling and thinking, and first came up with Courage, then later I realized Actualize is a better fit. Actualize is pushing through with creating in clay, cement sculpture, glass, mosaic, and acrylic painting. I have so many ideas that I’m bursting!
So dream big…loud and clear…and create something wonderful… and always shoot for the stars! What’s the worst that can happen?
I was really moved by the article about the guy who helped the kid who mugged him (previous post). It got me thinking about my dream that inspired the question “if you were writing a recipe to create world peace, what would you include?”. (Note to self: write dream down in my dream journal first and THEN think about it). I would love to do an installation and bigger pieces, but yesterday I started to think smaller.
I found one of my many boxes I’ve been collecting over the years, that reminds me of a recipe box. I gathered some of my favorite glass and fused glass pieces I’ve made over the months, and began to mosaic the box (see image above). I lined the inside with red velvet, to express the sacredness and importance of the ingredients it will soon hold. Inside the box’s lid, I assembled a heart with wings and the word peace.
Months ago, I had asked my friends, family, and Facebook friends my question inspired by the dream: “if you were writing a recipe to create world peace, what would you include?” I got some really good and well thought out answers. My plan is to type or handwrite each of their responses, one response will be on each recipe card that I will create. This piece will be in my dream art exhibit in May, as a separate part of the Artists in Dreamland.
I came across a story that touched my heart. It is the best example of how we can create positive in our lives through compassion and seeing the human being in each of us. This guy was mugged by a kid and was able to see and touch his humaness and actually help him. The article ended with him saying “if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right. It’s as simple as it gets in this complicated world”…I couldn’t have said it any better!
